Here is a photo of the tomb of King Herod “the Great” at his mountain fortress the Herodium, visible from our site. This tomb was discovered only in the past couple years, so it was exciting for us to see it.

The discovery was announced by Prof. Ehud Netzer at a press conference on May 8, 2007. Excavations are continuing on the north side of the staircase where a small Roman theater and loggia (think box seats for VIPs) have been uncovered. When I was there guiding this week they were just installing a conveyor belt to support the digging.
